Zauq

ZauqSheikh Muhammad Ibrahim Zauq was an Urdu poet. He wrote poetry under the pen name “Zauq,” and at the age of 19, he was named poet laureate of the Mughal Court in Delhi. Later, the last Mughal emperor and his disciple Bahadur Shah Zafar bestowed upon him the title of Khaqani-e-Hind (The Khaqani of India).

He was a poor, uneducated youth who later learned history, theology, and poetry. Zauq was a famous contemporary of Ghalib, and their rivalry is well-known in Urdu poetry history. During his lifetime, Zauq was more popular than Ghalib.

मोहम्मद इब्राहिम ज़ौक़ उर्दू अदब के एक मशहूर शायर थे. ज़ौक़ का असली नाम शेख़ इब्राहिम था और ये ग़ालिब के समकालीन शायरों में बहुत ऊपर का दर्जा रखते हैं. अपने ज़माने में ज़ौक़ की शायरी की धूम थी और ग़ालिब और मोमिन से ये बड़े शायर माने जाते थे.
