Asha Bhosle is a playback singer and entrepreneur from India. Although she has a larger repertoire, she is best known for her playback singing in Hindi films. Bhosle’s career began in 1943 and has lasted for more than seven decades. She has performed in over a thousand films as a playback singer. She’s also released a number of solo albums and performed in a number of solo concerts in India and abroad.
Asha Bhosle stated in 2006 that she had sung over 12,000 songs, a figure that has been confirmed by several other sources. She was officially recognised as the most recorded artist in music history by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2011.
In 2000, the Indian government awarded her the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and in 2008, the Padma Vibhushan. Bhosle is the younger sister of playback singer Lata Mangeshkar and is a member of the Mangeshkar family, which is well-known in Bollywood.
Bhosle’s work includes film music, pop, ghazals, bhajans, traditional Indian classical music, folk songs, qawwalis, and Rabindra Sangeet. She is known for her soprano voice range and versatility.
